Friends don't let friends miss Halloween parties!

When Jack Russell heard that his old pal Vampirella had been captured by a mad scientist bent on "curing" her of vampirism, and that she wouldn't be able to make it to his Halloween party, he immediately leapt into action. He fought his way into the villain's lair and liberated her. Because that's what friends do.

 Friends do whatever friends can do for each other to make sure they can't attend Halloween parties. Most of us will just offer to be the designated driver, but sometimes a rescue mission or some other form of intervention might need to be undertaken!

In Preparation for 31 Nights of Halloween!

For a number of years now, there has been at least one post every day during October at our sister blog Terror Titans for the 31 Nights of Halloween! This year, the 31 Nights of Halloween will also be taking place here at Shades of Gray! There will be at least one post every day shortly after Midnight... and you can then check out Terror Titans later after darkness has fallen again around 5pm! (Shades of Gray is on Pacific Standard Time, by the way.)

As a warm-up/preview to the creepy festivities, here's the evolution of a drawing, which shows Vampirella meeting Simon Garth the Zombie, from sketch to final. The artwork is by the great Pablo Marcos.

 ... and Vampirella thought she'd get into the Halloween spirit by eating some candy corn. That was left over from last year. 

We think her facial expression says how well that worked out.

 ... and Vampirella is contemplating her costume. This year, she's getting in on the ever-popular gender-bending-a-famous-character action this year. With a Shakespearean theme.

But she can't decide if she wants to go as MacBeth or Hamlet.

 ... and this year, Vampirella is insisting that we celebrate the Big Day as they do on her home planet of Drakulon. To that end, we're all practicing leap-frogging over tombstones in the nearby cemetery.

If you don't hear from us for a couple days, assume we've been arrested for trespassing and/or desecration of graves. Please send bail money.

 .... but there's still plenty of time to get decorations up, treats purchased, and costumes prepared, so Vampirella is spending this picture-perfect Wednesday playing with her favorite pet.

How can you tell Halloween is coming?

The air is turning cold... the shadows are deepening... and Vampirella is dropping by Shades of Gray for her annual visits!

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman will continue her bi-weekly appearances as well, since her latest movie has been postponed again. Although, since she was expecting to be off because of her movie coming out, all she's doing is showing the costume she'll be wearing for Halloween: She'll be going as the goddess Diana.

Although October is Vampirella's month, she didn't the Princesses of Mars to feel left out, so she called up Dejah Thoris, the most famous of the princesses, and asked her stop by. But before they had a chance to discuss how entertain the visitors to Shades of Gray, they got wind of a scheme by the Great Old Ones to destroy all Halloween candy on Earth! That called for a team-up and lots of ass-kicking!

And with Halloween saved, they kicked back and relaxed...
