How Reed and Sue spent Valentine's Day

Today, we present a very special pictorial about how Reed and Sue Richards (of the Fantastic Four) spent Valentine's Day.

The day began with a message from their sworn enemy (and Reed's old college roommate) Dr. Doom in which he stated, "Doom shall not threaten you on this day, because I respect the love and dedication you have shown each other through the years. Tomorrow is soon enough for my revenge."

And then it was off for a day of fun and romance, without the chaos that seemed to follow their teammates Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm around. (Johnny and Ben watched the kids while Reed and Sue relaxed.)

But it was the night that was truly eventful... and Sue may be announcing another period of maternity leave from the FF in a few months.

Batgirl will always be here...

Last year, we celebrated the announcement of a new Batgirl movie entering production, with Leslie Grace playing the title character. Today, we announce that the movie has been unceremoniously shelved, with the reason given that it's not high-budget and glitzy enough.

That's one of the dumbest reasons we've ever heard given for a movie not being released, and we share the sorrow of those who were looking forward to seeing this film (as well as the hundreds of people whose hard work may never seen by audiences).

BUT!

Batgirl will always be here at Shades of Gray, whether in the form of the lovely Yvonne Craig, or in drawings from artists famous and obscure! And we hope heartbroken Batgirl fans will be able to find some solace in this small gallery of art!

We also think you'll find some Batgirl joy in the absolutely, long-running gag strip by Mike Maihack starring Babs and her bestie, Supergirl. Click here to visit Mr. Maihack's website and be ready to smile.

Wonder Woman Wednesday

The legendary, trailblazing artist Neal Adams, who influenced an entire generation of comic book artists and who was a tireless advocate for creator rights, passed away at the age of 80 on April 28, 2022. In his memory and honor, we are featuring Wonder Woman sketches and portraits that Adams drew.

Adams is remembered mostly for his work for DC Comics, on Batman and Deadman stories in various titles, on the "Green Lantern & Green Arrow" series, as well as dozens of amazing covers for titles such as "House of Mystery" and "The Phantom Stranger". He was also responsible for interesting characters such as Toyboy and Valaria for his own company, Continuity Comics. We'll be presenting a gallery or two of Adams' more iconic work at some point in the future.
