Happy Fourth of July!

We hope American is having as great an Independence Day as we're having here at Shades of Gray! There might not be as many photos in this post as there have been in some previous years, but there's more to see in each one!

Here's Susan Hayward and Virginia Lee, making sure everyone knows what day it is!

And we have Marceline Day, Anita Page, and Gwen Lee re-creating a famous painting celebrating the War for Independence in their own unique way!

Meanwhile, David Bowie may be standing alone, but he's an Englishman lifting his glass to Old Glory!

But there's perhaps nothing as grand as Joan Marsh transforming herself into a living avatar of the Fourth of July--Sparky Boom-Boom!

On a serious note...

Before we bring your our traditional post of patriotic girlie pics on Independence Day in the U.S., we bring you a PSA that originally appeared in a 1948 issue of Action Comics. Please take its message to heart; we want visitors to Shades of Gray to be able to visit us on July 5 and beyond! (Click on the image to see a larger, more readable version.)

A bigger bang for the Fourth of July!

On this Fourth of July, Dana Plato's years of research into how to get a REALLY big bang is being put into practice. (If your windows shatter, it means we've had a Best Independence Day Celebration Ever here at Shades of Gray.)

Here at Shades of Gray, Gloria Shea and Joan Blondell are sporting their matching Uncle Sam outfits while Grace Bradley is testing her Social Distancing Fireworks Display.

Mae-be Fourth of July Cos-Playing?

Mae West is cos-playing the Statue of Liberty on this Independence Day!

(This picture originally appeared in the July issue of Vanity Fair in 1938, pretty much exactly eighty years ago!)

Happy Fourth of July!

We hope all our American visitors have great Independence Day, even if you might not be able to celebrate it with some gender-reversing cos-play like Olga San Juan, Noel Niell and Nancy Porter did!

To all my American friends -- Happy Independence Day!

I hope it's a safe and happy one, spent with friends and family! (And may your fireworks stock resemble that of Susan Hayward's.)

Ann Miller is ready for the Fourth of July!

She's prone to overkill. Or maybe she's going to be celebrating the Fourth by dropping fireworks on the heads of  those fun-loving folk in ISIS.

Have you got your plans all settled? Whether you have or not, we wish you and yours a Happy Fourth of July (tomorrow)!

A request from the management regarding fireworks

Be sure to practice safe handling of fireworks this Fourth of July. We don't want to ruin Gloria Grahame's outfit again this year.
