Not since Zoe Seldana first helped bring this blog's unifying theme into focus has anyone done it as effectively as Julie Newmar does today.

The Unifying Theme with Gal Gadot
Since January of 2020, we've been posting bi-weekly galleries of great Wonder Woman portraits in anticipation of "Wonder Woman 1984" being released. It's taking a bit longer than anticipated, but we'll keep them coming until we get to see Gal Gadot wearing the magic bracers and riding the lightning on screen.
Since this is an off-week Wonder Woman-wise, we are instead bringing you a gallery of photos of Gal Gadot being Gal Gadot (or, the Model Gal Gadot) while demonstrating the unifying theme of this blog.

Musical Monday with Spirit Animal
Since Covid19/Coronavirus/whatever-the-acceptable-shorthand-for-the-global-pandemic-is-today is turning many of us into shut-ins, we here at Shades of Gray have teamed up with Spirit Animal (a band from Brooklyn, N.Y.) to bring you an exercise regiment that will keep you physically fit.
Please follow the instructions in the video carefully.
(Come to think of it, this is also a perfect illustration of this blog's unifying theme!)

Musical Monday with Beyonce
"Single Ladies" is Beyonce's 2008 smash hit that is still well worth listening today; it's a song that will have you dancing your way into your work week. Meanwhile, the video for the song is another perfect illustration of this blog's unifying theme. Enjoy, and Happy Monday to you!
(Valentine's Day is coming up later this week, so maybe someone out there will find this song inspiring and "put a ring on it"!)

Musical Monday with the Correspondents
L.L. Hundal (of NUELOW Games): So you're posting a music video every Monday. Cool.
Steve Miller (of Shades of Gray): I think so. There are lots of great black-and-white music vids to spotlight!
Hundal: You still do that 'The Unifying Theme' bit with pics?
Miller: Yep.
Hundal: I wonder if there's a 'Unifying Theme' video out there.
Miller: …
The Correspondents: Hold our tray of tiny masked dancers and watch this.
The Correspondents is British music duo consisting of front-man Ian Bruce and keyboardist/DJ Tim Cole. They have a sound all their own that's best described as a cross between electronica, blues, jazz, funk, and whatever else happens to strike their fancy at any given moment. Their first appearance here at Shades of Gray has them performing their 2016 song "Inexplicable", with a video directed and produced by Christina Hardinge. The entire package that mixes old and modern and weird sums up this blog perfectly... and we hope this bit of supreme weirdness gets your work-week off to a fun and funky start!
The Correspondents will be filing other reports here at Shades of Gray on future Musical Mondays, so stay tuned!

Picture Perfect Wednesday with Lily Gao
Lily Gao is a Canadian model and actress who has most recently been seen as the would-be U.N. Secretary General in the latest episodes of the sci-fi series "The Expanse" on Amazon Prime. (That's a show that's outside the scope of this blog, but I strongly recommend watching all four seasons of it. It just keeps getting better and better.)
Today, Ms. Gao is here to demonstrate the unifying theme at Shades of Gray.

Picture Perfect Wednesday: Bebe Daniels
Bebe Daniels may be one of the most resilient actresses in film history. Born in 1901, she got her start as a child actor, at the age of 10, in the early days of the silent film movie industry. She successfully transitioned to adult roles in her teens, survived the dramatic shift to the talkies during her 20s, matured into dramatic roles in her 30s, and found a successful career in radio acting as she entered her 40s. She continued as a working actress in radio and on television until 1961.
Today, Daniels is helping to remind us of the unifying theme of this blog. (And you can click here to read reviews of--and even watch--several of the movies she appeared in, including the one that launched her long and varied career.)

The Love Quarterly
Bessie Love was a hugely popular star of silent movies and early talkies who dropped out of high school to pursue a film career. She had moved from Texas to Hollywood with her father, who was a cowboy-turned-chiropractor, and mother, and she entered the film biz upon the urging of family friend and actor Tom Mix.
I'll offer more trivia about Bessie Love in future installments of The Love Quarterly, but I'm not sure I'll ever top the bit about her father being a Texas cowboy who became a California chiropractor. Meanwhile, here are a couple more photos of Love that demonstrate the unifying theme off this blog.

Picture Perfect Wednesday: Abigail Spencer
One of my all-time favorite TV shows--"Timeless"--is back for a 2nd Season (after almost being cancelled on a cliffhanger)! To celebrate, and to illustrate the unifying theme of this blog, here's phere's actress Abigail Spencer. She plays the secret-society-busting, time-traveling-historian Lucy Preston on "Timeless.", showing us the unifying theme of this blog!
