It's International Bikini Day!

It's Wednesday... and it's International Bikini Day. That can only mean one thing: We got pictures of women in bikinis to make this a Picture Perfect Wednesday!

We celebrate on this day, because it is when, in 1946, French automobile engineer and fashion designer Louis Reard bestowed the itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny bikini ["the world's smallest swimsuit"] upon the world! Read all about this great man here!)

Is it time to stop?

We've been tracking the dancers in the wild for a year now. Is this where we stop the monthly posts? Will the dancers be left alone until next International Dance Day?

Time will tell. Meanwhile, you can help us choose... will the last Wednesday each month continue as Dancer Day or not? What do YOU want?

It's June!

June Palmer with a tea cup

June Palmer was an exotic dancer and nude model who graced the pages of many leading men's magazines during the early 1960s. Her rise to fame was aided by collaborations with photographer and adult filmmaker  George Harrison Marks.

After appearing in several short films for Marks and the mockumentary feature film "The Naked World of Harrison Marks" (1964), Palmer set her sights on breaking into mainstream film. During the late 1960s and into the early 1970s, she appeared in a handful of features and short films, in mostly very small parts, and usually in varying states of undress. Among these was a part in Hammer Films' "Taste the Blood Dracula" (1970), which featured all the lacy nightgowns and undies you'd expect.

Palmer's film career never took off, and she retired from life in front of the camera after one final nude pictorial in 1977. She passed away in 2004 at the age of 73.

Some art by June in June!

June Brigman is perhaps best known for being to co-creator of the excellent 1980s/1990s series from Marvel Comics, Power Pack. She has been gracing covers and interior pages of American comic books of pretty much all genres since her first foray into comics as a penciler during the early 1980s.

Here's a small sampling of artwork from Brigman's pencil over the past three decades, starting with a very nice illustration of the original Black Cat.

It's June...

... June Palmer that is.

June Palmer

Born in 1940, British actress and model June Palmer got her start in showbusiness in her late teens, performing as an exotic dancer in London cabarets. By 19, she had "graduated" to modeling for men's magazines. Within just a few years, she had become a popular figure (or, rather, her figure had become popular) in Great Britain, throughout the Commonwealth, and in the United States. By the mid-1960s, the film industry was calling to her...

Check back in two weeks for another Picture Perfect Wednesday featuring June Palmer... with more pictures and more information about her career in pictures, both still and moving!

It's Mermay!

Some say mermaids are just imaginary creatures... but we have photos that prove otherwise!

It's Mermay!

For several years, artists have been posting pictures of mermaids every day in the month of May in observance of MerMay. This tradition was originated by veteran animator and illustrator Tom Bancroft to encourage young artists to hone their skills and share their work.

We're going to kinda-sorta take part in MerMay this year, with each Picture Perfect Wednesday this month spotlighting Chicks of the Sea!

We're kicking things off with Ann Blyth in a couple of promotional photos for "Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid". (We may even get around to posting a review of that film later this month.)

Here's a vaguely sea-related song to get the month started right. (Maybe we'll post a song every Wednesday, too, if we find ones that are appropriate!)

What are the dancers up to?

On International Dance Day 2022, the ballerinas ran off into the wild. We're trying to keep track of them, and we'll try to bring you updates on the last Wednesday of each month until International Dance Day 2023.

Today is laundry day!
