Batgirl will always be here...

Last year, we celebrated the announcement of a new Batgirl movie entering production, with Leslie Grace playing the title character. Today, we announce that the movie has been unceremoniously shelved, with the reason given that it's not high-budget and glitzy enough.

That's one of the dumbest reasons we've ever heard given for a movie not being released, and we share the sorrow of those who were looking forward to seeing this film (as well as the hundreds of people whose hard work may never seen by audiences).

BUT!

Batgirl will always be here at Shades of Gray, whether in the form of the lovely Yvonne Craig, or in drawings from artists famous and obscure! And we hope heartbroken Batgirl fans will be able to find some solace in this small gallery of art!

We also think you'll find some Batgirl joy in the absolutely, long-running gag strip by Mike Maihack starring Babs and her bestie, Supergirl. Click here to visit Mr. Maihack's website and be ready to smile.

Yvonne Craig welcomes you to Summer!

Actress and Dancer Yvonne Craig at 19

Summer is officially here! We're celebrating its arrival with some pictures of Yvonne Craig in a bikini!

Craig was a dancer turned actress and model. She is a favorite here at Shades of Gray who is perhaps best remembered for her turn as Batgirl on television in the late 1960s. The featured photos are all from a shoot early in her career.

Picture Perfect Wednesday with the Batgirls

It was announced last week that Leslie Grace has been cast as Batgirl in an upcoming film from Warner Bros. We celebrate her casting here at Shades of Gray with a picture of her and another Batgirl, Yvonne Craig--separated by almost six decades yet equally fit to play the role of Babs "Batgirl" Gordon, and equally fit for sea-side frolicking!

And while we're at it, there's the Batgirl who came in-between the first actress and the most recent one-Alicia Silverstone. Maybe she'll hit the beach, too... if she gets out of bed!

Pre-Thanksgiving Wonder Woman Wednesday

Wonder Woman portrait by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez
We here at Shades of Gray are thankful for Wonder Woman.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman is grateful that comic book characters can't catch Covid-19, so she, her friends, and her comic-book universe fans can keep hanging out--and even have Thanksgiving Dinner together! We wish WE were comic book characters, too!

Happy Batman Day!

Some say it's on the third Saturday in September. Others say it's on September 21. Whatever the case, Batman Day is as mysterious as the Caped Crusader it is named after! And we're celebrating it with this gallery of fine art portraying Batman along with his friends and foes!

In Memory of Yvonne Craig

Today, it's five years since the great Yvonne Craig passed away at the age of 78. In memory, here are a few photos of her being where we all wish would be could be this time of year--young and hanging out on the beach.

'Wonder Woman 1984' Delayed... but There's Also Good News!

We just learned that the new Wonder Woman movie has been pushed back from its June 4th, 2020, release to August 14th. While, on the one hand, this is disappointing to us, on the other hand, it means that there will be many more Wonder Woman Wednesdays, with their galleries of great portraits of everyone's favorite Amazon (and her pals)!

Picture Perfect Wednesday: George Perez

Legendary comics artist George Perez recently announced that he is retiring, due to failing eyesight and other health issues. He's been at the drawing board for more than forty years. I'll be devoting a number of Picture Perfect Wednesdays to Perez this year, celebrating the decades of beauty and exciting story-telling he brought to the pages and covers of American comic books.

We're going to start with a look at the history of and relationship between Batman and Robin (and Alfred the faithful manservant) as portrayed by Perez in the late 1980s. (Click on the pictures to see larger versions and fully enjoy the many details in the artwork.)

And, just because... here's a drawing Perez did of the classic Barbara Gordon Batgirl.
